On September 15, thanks to the Margit Quarter revitalization program, we received the keys to a property that had most likely stood empty for over 12 years.
We celebrated the handover — and what we jokingly called the “0th birthday” of Start Gallery — with an extensive unpacking session. Since then, the gallery has been open almost every weekday except Tuesdays, currently on a more experimental, soft-opening basis, between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
This early phase already offers visitors a glimpse into the evolving atmosphere of the new contemporary art space, dedicated to independent artists, community creativity, and accessible contemporary artwork in Budapest, Hungary.

Start Gallery opened its doors with more than 100 fresh contemporary drawings and several paintings, thanks to the great success of the SKICC ’21 exhibition.
The mission of the gallery is to help break down the misconception that original artworks are inaccessible to everyday people, and to make fresh, living contemporary art easily available to a wider audience.
By purchasing artworks from the gallery, visitors directly support emerging young independent artists—their studies, creative practices, and everyday lives—as the materials and tools required for artistic creation are often incredibly expensive.

For an even larger selection of contemporary artworks, however, everyone is warmly welcome to visit our freshly opened, still delightfully unfinished gallery space at Margit Boulevard 15–17 in Budapest, Hungary. 🙂
P.S. Our community-commercial gallery is deeply grateful for all the kindness and support we have experienced during these first few days. 🙂
