Start Gallery Budapest is a small, independent contemporary art gallery on Margit körút: an artist-run space, a living room for culture, and a rather serious place for falling in love with a picture.
We work with emerging and established artists whose work carries a recognisable voice, a certain nerve and enough mystery to survive the season. Painting, drawing, street-born gestures, post-socialist memory, private mythology, urban humour and the occasional elegant disturbance all have a place here.
A Budapest independent
Founded and run by painter Analóg Angelika, Start is an artist-run independent space and a community-minded commercial gallery. It grew from Budapest’s underground and keeps its doors open to the city: exhibitions, conversations, drawing sessions and encounters that rarely behave like official culture, though they take art quite properly seriously.
For collectors, the curious and the professionally suspicious
You need no prior knowledge to enter and no inherited collection to begin. We help first-time buyers and experienced collectors look slowly, ask useful questions and choose works they will still wish to live with after the opening-night glamour has departed.
For curators, critics and fellow professionals, Start offers a close view of contemporary Hungarian and Central European positions: practices shaped by urban memory, intimacy, social observation, playfulness and the political subconscious of the region.
