Gouache on paper, signed on the reverse, 8 × 5.5 cm. The reddish-brown tree trunk is the strongest element, dividing the space in two and acting as its axis. A pale, ghostlike white figure appears on the left; a larger white form with a lowered head occupies the right. The painting immediately suggests relationships: separation, closeness and presences that stand alongside one another without touching. Greens and yellow-greens create a living environment, contrasting with the warm trunk and the soft physicality of the white figure. It feels like both a natural scene and an inner state: a garden that is also an emotional space. The figure on the right is scarcely detailed but deeply human, conveying a stoop, inwardness and weight. The pale shape on the left almost disappears, resembling a memory, shadow or earlier presence. Between them, the tree could also be a boundary in time or feeling. The painting leaves its scene open: tree and figures, separation, silence and a subtle human sadness. It sustains a state of being.
