Marko Rodics

The mission of artworks is similar to that of buoys: to help humanity navigate the world.

Artist’s Statement

I consider the artworks I create to be gifts to society. For me, art is not work, nor an activity carried out on commission, but the necessary and free materialisation of the thoughts that arise in me when I notice a flaw in the system — whether cultural, social, or political. I believe that critical observation does not destroy; it improves.

The aim of my artworks is to place existing structures in a new light and to initiate a form of collective self-reflection.

I do not create functional objects, but autonomous systems that give material form to conceptual relationships. My techniques and use of materials are eclectic, yet always deliberate: I build from existing objects, waste materials, and elements removed from their original contexts. This is not only an environmentally conscious gesture, but also an ideological statement — a tool for creating an alternative reality in which the components of the world gain new meaning.

Each of my works is a miniature ecosystem, where the connection between elements defines not only formal relationships, but also relationships of meaning.

I do not consciously choose themes or directions. Questions come to me, they follow from one another, and every answer gives rise to a new question. What I seek is not order, but a space for free movement — where thought and material encounter no obstacles, only necessity.
