We are working hard!

Good to Have You Here!

Start Gallery Budapest – Contemporary Art Space in Budapest, Hungary

Start Gallery will soon become one of the city’s most exciting new cultural spaces.

We are opening a community-commercial contemporary art gallery as part of the Margit Quarter revitalization program, inside the beautiful Bauhaus building known as the Dugattyús House, located at 15–17 Margit Boulevard in Budapest.

Community

We plan to organize first exhibitions for young, emerging, and still undiscovered independent artists—giving creators the opportunity to present their works in a real gallery environment, often for the very first time.

Commercial Gallery

As both a gallery and an art shop, we aim to offer fresh and contemporary artworks at prices accessible to everyday people.

Our goal is to finally connect art lovers with talented living artists who may not yet be internationally known. By purchasing artworks, visitors directly support real contemporary painters and creators, while bringing unique, original works into their homes instead of mass-produced prints reproduced in tens of thousands of copies.

Workshop Space

Our gallery will regularly host creative workshops focused on specific artistic techniques and disciplines, allowing participants to create together in small groups within a calm, relaxed, and inspiring atmosphere.

Club

Under the name Random Sketchclub, we organize informal social drawing gatherings where strangers come together simply to draw—without expectations, obligations, or even prior drawing experience.

A welcoming creative community built around contemporary art, experimentation, and human connection in Budapest, Hungary.

Felszabtér Drawing Session – SKICC ’21

Students of the prestigious drawing school present their works across four exhibition levels inside the iconic Margaret Island Water Tower.

The exhibition offers a wide-ranging selection of fresh contemporary drawings and emerging artistic voices, highlighting the diversity and vitality of Budapest’s young independent art scene.

We Opened Our Doors a Little

On September 15, thanks to the Margit Quarter revitalization program, we received the keys to a property that had most likely stood empty for over 12 years.

We celebrated the handover — and what we jokingly called the “0th birthday” of Start Gallery — with an extensive unpacking session. Since then, the gallery has been open almost every weekday except Tuesdays, currently on a more experimental, soft-opening basis, between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

This early phase already offers visitors a glimpse into the evolving atmosphere of the new contemporary art space, dedicated to independent artists, community creativity, and accessible contemporary artwork in Budapest, Hungary.

Start Gallery opened its doors with more than 100 fresh contemporary drawings and several paintings, thanks to the great success of the SKICC ’21 exhibition.

The mission of the gallery is to help break down the misconception that original artworks are inaccessible to everyday people, and to make fresh, living contemporary art easily available to a wider audience.

By purchasing artworks from the gallery, visitors directly support emerging young independent artists—their studies, creative practices, and everyday lives—as the materials and tools required for artistic creation are often incredibly expensive.

For an even larger selection of contemporary artworks, however, everyone is warmly welcome to visit our freshly opened, still delightfully unfinished gallery space at Margit Boulevard 15–17 in Budapest, Hungary. 🙂

P.S. Our community-commercial gallery is deeply grateful for all the kindness and support we have experienced during these first few days. 🙂
